Talvipäivän seisaus – The Winter Solstice

Aurinkovuosi- sarjani kolmas osa on Talvipäivän seisaus. Tai kronologisesti se on kyllä ensimmäinen osa, koska tein sen ensin. Se taas johtui siitä, että kun aloin tehdä tätä sarjaa oli joulukuu ja pohjoisen pallonpuoliskon pimeys synkimmillään. Ja viime syksynä se pimeys oli pimeämpää kuin yleensä, koska ei ollut satanut edes lunta. Tätä osaa ennakoivan työn tein jo vuosia sitten ja esittelin sen täällä. Siitä se kaikki sitten lähtikin.

The third part in The Solar Year series is called The Winter Solstice. Actually it is the first part because I made it first. When I began to make this series it was December and the darkness was at its gloomiest on the northern hemisphere. Last year the darkness was even gloomier than usual because it even hadn’t been snowing. The work that preceded this work I made years ago and I introduced it to you here. The whole series is based on it.

Talvipäivän seisaus on tänä vuonna 21.12. klo 13:14. Silloin päivä on lyhimmillään ja kestää näillä leveysasteilla vain 5 h 31 min. Aurinko nousee klo 9:31 ja laskee klo 15:03. Muu aika onkin sitten pelkkää pimeää. Siksi tässä työssä auringon osuus työn keskellä on vain häviävä keltainen viiva. Toivon, että silloin on edes lunta, siksi työssä on myös vähän valkoista reunoilla.

This year the winter solstice will take place December the 21^st at 13:14. The day will be at its shortest and lasts only 5 h 31 min here at the 60th parallel north. The sun will rise at 9:31 and set at 15:03. The rest of the day will be nothing but dark. That’s why the sun in the middle of the work is just a narrow yellow line. I hope we’ll have snow then. Therefore I put a bit of white on the edges.

Käytin myös paljettikangasta ja erilaisia tikkauksia.

I also used fabric with sequins and different types of quilting.

Syyspäivän tasaus – The Autumnal Equinox

Syksy ei ole onneksi vielä, vaikka siltä tuntuukin. Syyspäivän tasaus on tänä vuonna vasta lauantaina 22.9.2012 klo 17.49. Enpähän tiennyt aikaisemmin, että sille on noin tarkka aika. Nyt tiedän. Päivä ja yö ovat silloin suunnilleen yhtä pitkiä kaikkialla maapallolla. Syyspäiväntasauksen aikaan Aurinko siirtyy maapallon pohjoiselta puoliskolta eteläiselle. Sitä ei-niin-innokkaasti odotellessa esittelen Aurinkovuosi-sarjaani kuuluvan työn Syyspäivän tasaus.

It’s not autumn yet although it feels like it. This year the autumnal equinox is on Saturday, September the 22^nd at 17:49. I didn’t realize earlier it has such an exact time, but now I know. Then the day and the night are about equally long all over the globe and at that time the sun moves from the northern hemisphere to the southern hemisphere of the earth. While I’m not-so-eagerly waiting for that to happen I introduce to you my work “The Autumnal Equinox” which belongs to the series “The Solar Year”.

Valoa on jo selvästi vähemmän kuin Kesäpäivän seisauksessa. Työn keskusta on kapeampi ja koko työ on pienempi. Kesän vihreä on muuttunut jo tummemmaksi ja luonnosta löytyy jo ruskeaa ja keltaistakin.

There’s clearly less light than in “The Summer Solstice”. The middle of the work is narrower and the whole work is smaller. The bright greens of the summer have turned darker and the nature already has brown and yellow tunes.

 

Syksy on syvimmillään. Lehtiä on jo alkanut pudota maahan..

The autumn is at its deepest. The leaves have begun to fall on the ground..

Kesäpäivän seisaus – The Summer Solstice

Se on tänään. Siis kesäpäivän seisaus. Päivä on niin pitkä, ettei yötä juuri olekaan. Mahtavaa!

Se on myös käsityön taiteen opintojeni lopputyön osan nimi. Viime syystalvella miettiessäni sitä, missä on aurinko, aloin ideoida neljän työn sarjaa, joista kukin kuvaa päivän pituutta vuoden eri aikoina: talvipäivän seisaus, kevätpäivän tasaus, kesäpäivän seisaus ja syyspäivän tasaus. Löysin netistä termin aurinkovuosi, johon nämä kaikki neljä päivää kuuluvat.

Tässä siis Kesäpäivän seisaus

 

It is today. The summer solstice I mean. The day is so long that the night hardly exists. Magnificent!

 Summer solstice is also the name of my work. It is part one of the series which forms my final work in my arts and craft studies. Last winter I was wondering where on earth the sun had disappeared. That gave me an idea for the series of four works each of which picture the length of the day in different times of the year: winter solstice, vernal equinox, summer solstice and autumnal equinox.

Here you are: the Summer Solstice

Keskellä on aurinko. The sun is in the middle.

Ripustin sen työhuoneeni ikkunaan. Vaihdan niitä sitten vuodenajan mukaan.

I hung it up on the window in my studio. I´ll change it when the autumn comes.
