Wanted - Dead or Alive

Olen jo aiemmin kertonut, kuinka tässä asunnossa katoaa tavaroita. Ja jälleen se on tapahtunut. Katoaminen alkoi siitä, kun aloin siivota työhuonettani. Se on tietysti aina vähän vaarallista, silloin usein katoaa esineitä, harvemmin löytyy. Tällä kertaa siivosin siksi, että oli tulossa yövieraita, ja työhuoneeni on samalla myös vierashuone. Olin tekemässä tyttärelleni seinävaatetta, josta olin jo saanut tilkkuosan valmiiksi. Ja siis siivosin sen pois vieraideni tieltä ja laitoin varmaan paikkaan, josta sen löytäisin. Nyt en vain muista, mikä paikka se on. Tai siis mielestäni muistin, mutta ei se ollut siellä. Olin ehtinyt ottaa työn aloituksesta tämän kuvan.

As I have told you before things have a habit of disappearing in this apartment. Last month it happened again. I began cleaning up my studio which is of course always a bit dangerous task because then things are more likely to disappear than to be found. This time I was tidying up for the night guests we were going to have as my studio serves as a guest room as well. I had been making a quilt for my daughter and the patchwork part was ready. I put it in a safe place so that I would most certainly find it after the guests were gone. Now I just can’t remember where that safe place is. I mean I think I remember but the work is not there. This is the only picture I took when I began to cut the fabrics for the quilt.

 

Työllä on jo valmis nimilappukin. Olen ollut ääretön optimisti, kun laitoin jo lappuun valmiiksi vuoden, jolloin työn olisi pitänyt olla valmis. Pikkasen taidan olla myöhässä.

Even the label for the work is ready (Vanilla and Strawberries). I must have been quite the optimist when I printed the year the work was supposed to be finished on the label. I’m a bit late, don’t you think?

Nyt lomalla ollessa aloin kissojen ja koirien kanssa etsiä sitä. Tai siis, koiraa minulle ei ole, mutta kissa ilmoittautui vapaaehtoisesti mukaan. 

I’m on vacation now and I started searching for it with cats and dogs (as we say in Finnish when we turn everything upside down looking for something). That is, I don’t have a dog but my cat volunteered. 

Valitettavasti työ ei löytynyt kukkaruukusta. 

Unfortunately the quilt wasn’t in the flower pot.

 Eikä se ollut pöydän allakaan. It wasn’t under the table either.

Ja kissa kyllästyi aika sukkelaan. The cat got bored pretty soon.  

 

Olen etsinyt jo kaikki mahdolliset paikat. Se tekele on siis jossain mahdottomassa paikassa ja putkahtaa sieltä ilmoille, silloin kun haluaa. Minun täytyy varmaan vain odottaa. Ja välttää siivoamista sillä aikaa.

On tämä asunto joskus antanut minun löytääkin kadonneita esineitä. Kuten esim. se kirja, josta kerroin Stari Most –postauksessa, jonka nimeä en edes muistanut. Se oli raukka piiloutunut kirjahyllyyn muiden kirjojen taakse. Löysin sen etsiessäni tätä tilkkutyötä, joka ei siis ollut kirjahyllyssäkään. Mutta kirja löytyi ja tässä se nyt on. Minun täytyy varmaan alkaa etsiä jotain muuta, jotta löytäisin sen tilkkutyön.

I have been looking for it in every possible place. I believe it must be in an impossible place and it will pop up when it feels like it. I just have to wait and avoid cleaning up in the meantime. 

Once this apartment has let me find a disappeared item. It was that book I told you about in my Stari Most –post. I didn’t even remember its name because it had been missing for so long. The poor thing had hidden itself in a bookshelf behind the other books. I found it when I was looking for this quilt which wasn’t in the bookshelf either. At least I have this book now. Probably I must begin to look for something else in order to find that missing quilt.

Aurinkovuosi – The Solar Year

Aurinkovuosi-sarja oli lopputyöni käsityötaiteen perusopinnoissani. Tässä se on kuvattuna kevätnäyttelyssä Lahdessa toukokuussa 2012.

Kevätpäivän tasaus – The Vernal Equinox

Viimeinen osa Aurinkovuosi-sarjastani on Kevätpäivän tasaus. Se oli myös kaikkein vaikein ja tein sen viimeiseksi.
The Vernal Equinox is the last part of The Solar Year series.

 

Johtuikohan siitä, että kevät on muutenkin niin vaikeaa, jotenkin kummallista ja ennakoimatonta aikaa. Esimerkiksi huolimatta meteorologeista on keväällä yleensä mahdotonta tietää etukäteen, millainen ilma on huomenna. Kun aloin etsiä kankaita tähän työhön, kuvittelin, että maaliskuun lopulla olisi jo vihreää ja ehkä vähän lämmintäkin. Mutta mitä vielä, lunta joka puolella, eikä vihreää muualla kuin männyissä, jotka nyt ovat kaiken aikaa vihreitä, joten niitä ei lasketa. 

It was also the most difficult part because spring is always such a difficult, unpredictable and somehow strange time of the year. Despite the weather forecasts it’s almost impossible to know tomorrow’s weather in the spring. When I began to sort my fabrics for this work I thought that at the end of March there would be some green plants and the temperature perhaps only a few degrees under centigrade. What did I know! There was snow all over the country and the only green plants were pines but they are evergreens so they don’t count.

 Kevätpäivän tasaus oli tänä vuonna 20.3. klo 7:14. Olin silloin hereillä. Ei siksi, että silloin olisi mitään ihmeellistä tapahtunut, oli vain tiistai ja työpäivä. Valoa oli sinä päivänä jo paljon, varmaan siksi, koska oli vielä lunta. Siksi työn keskustassa on kirkasta keltaista ja valkoista.

The vernal equinox was this year March the 20th at 7:14 a.m. I was awake then. Not because something special should have happened then but it was Tuesday and a working day. It was a bright day perhaps because there was lots of snow around. That’s why the center of the work is bright yellow and white. 

 

Työ on samankokoinen kuin Syyspäivän tasaus, koska valon määrä tasauspäivinä on samansuuruinen. Laitoin työhön vähän enemmän hentoa vihreää kuin luonnossa oikeasti olikaan. Olin ilmeisen toiveikas, että joskus se kesä sieltä vielä tänäkin vuonna tulee.  

The work itself is the same size as The Autumnal Equinox because the amount of light is the same during both days. I used a little bit more light greens than there were in the nature. Obviously I was hopeful that one day this year there would be summer.
