Olin viikon lomalla Espanjassa. Ennen lähtöä mietin, miten saada 4 tunnin lento kulumaan. Ainahan voi toki lukea, mutta kirja painaa käsimatkatavaroissa. Saksia ja neuloja ei saa viedä koneeseen sisälle. Mutta puiset puikot ja virkkuukoukut saa viedä! Päivää ennen matkaa kävin ostamassa bambupuisen virkkuukoukun ja kotoa löytyi kerä riittävän ohutta lankaa, jotta sen saa käsissä poikki.
Last week I spent my holidays in Spain. It is a 4 hour flight from here and I wondered how I could pass the time. You can always read but a book is heavy in the hand luggage. Scissors and needles are forbidden in the cabin but wooden crocheting needles are allowed! A day before the journey I bought a crocheting needle made of bamboo. At home I found a skein of adequately thin yarn so that I could cut it with my bare hands.
Novitan Tico Tico oli jäänyt jostain edellisestä projektista. Vyötteessä luki, että se on sukkalankaa, mutta mistäpä se lanka tietää, mitä siitä tehdään. Se oli vielä kaiken lisäksi pätkävärjättyä, joten yhdestä kerästä tuli monivärisiä isoäidin neliöitä.
A skein of Novita’s Tico Tico yarn was left over from an earlier project. In the belt of the skein I read the yarn was meant to be used for socks. Well, the yarn doesn’t know what I am going to make out of it. Besides it was multicolored so I needed only one skein to make multicolored grandma’s squares.
Virkkasin koneessa. Varmistin ensin tyttäreltä, ettei häntä nolota istua vieressäni, kun virkkaan.
I crocheted in the plane. First I made sure that my daughter wouldn’t get too embarrassed to sit next to me while I crochet.
Jatkoin virkkausta rannalla aurinkovarjon alla.
I kept on crocheting on the beach under a sombrella.
Yhdestä kerästä sain aikaan kuusi 15 cm x 15 cm neliötä. Matkan jälkeen yritin ostaa samaa väriä lisää, mutta en enää löytänyt, oli varmaan jotain viime talven väriä. Mitäpä nyt teen näillä kuudella neliöllä?! En saa niistä liiviä, en huivia. Jonkinlaiset sukantapaiset töppöset varmaan onnistuisivat. Luulen, että lanka sittenkin tiesi, että se oli sukkalankaa.
I managed to crochet 6 squares (15cm x 15 cm) from one skein. After the journey I tried to buy more yarn of the same color but I couldn’t find it anymore. It must have been a last season color. What am I to do with these six squares?! I can’t make a vest or a scarf out of them. Perhaps some kind of socks might be possible. I’m sure the yarn knew after all that it was supposed to be knit into socks.
