Satuin ostamaan kahta erisävyistä Tico Tico –lankaa pari kerää kumpaakin. Oli tarkoitus päättää, kummasta alkaisin virkata jotain shaalia tai hartiahuivia pimeinä talvi-iltoina. Kokeilin erilaista virkattuja neliötä, tämä on nimeltään Ristiin rastiin.
I happened to buy some Tico Tico yarn in two different shades two skeins each. I was supposed to decide which one of the shades I would use for a shawl. I tried different kinds of crocheted squares. This one is called Zig Zag.
Niinhän siinä kävi kuten minulle aina käy. Se lanka, jonka valitsin, olikin sitten sen jälkeen totaalisesti myyty loppuun. Ei auttanut enää edes Tapion kauppakaan. Sitä toista sävyä kyllä löytyi! Ajattelin silti kokeilla onneani, ehkä kaksi kerää riittäisi. Eihän se tietenkään riittänyt. Lanka loppui, kun oli enää 6 neliötä tekemättä.
As always the yarn which I eventually decided to use was completely sold out. Not even Tapio’s shop could help me anymore. Naturally I could find the other shade of the yarn almost everywhere. I thought I’d try my luck and perhaps two skeins would be enough. Well, of course it wasn’t. The yarn ran out when only six squares were undone.
Kyllästyneenä virkkaamaan ilman lankaa jätin työn tuolin käsinojalle odottamaan aikaa parempaa. Siinä se muhi pari kuukautta.
Bored with crocheting a shawl without yarn I left the work on the handle of my chair waiting for better times. It lied there for about two months until I had had about enough of it.
Ihan viatonhan se siihen oli, että minä en osannut valita ajoissa mieleistäni sävyä, enkä ostaa riittävää määrää lankaa. Otin tekeleen uudelleen käsittelyyn, kääntelin ja vääntelin ja purin jo yhteen virkattuja neliöitä. Virkkasin puuttuvat neliöt siitä toisesta langasta pätkimällä siitä pois epäsopivimman värisiä kohtia ja upotin neliöt näiden kauniimpien sekaan.
Anyway, the crochet was entirely innocent for me being incapable of deciding the shade in time and buying enough yarn in the first place. I took the piece in my hands once again and twisted and turned it and took apart the squares. Then I crocheted the lacking squares from the other shade of the yarn by cutting off the unsuitably colored ends. These squares I hid among the more beautiful ones.
Tuli siitä sittenkin jonkinlainen hartianlämmitin.
After everything it ended up as some sort of garment to warm up shoulders.
