13. väri: kaakelinsininen – 13th color, ceramic tile blue

Viimeksi tuumin, että seuraava tähti voisi olla sininen. Kuinka ollakaan ollessani työni vuoksi Helsingissä Hotelli Seurahuoneella yötä, törmäsin hotellihuoneen vessassa tähän huumaavan siniseen kaakeliseinään. Kaakeleitahan nyt voi olla minkä värisiä vain, ja tämäkin on varmaan ihan standardi mosaiikkikaakelia, mutta minun tarpeeseeni se tuli ihan yllättäen ja pyytämättä.

Last time I thought that the next star could be blue. Can you imagine where I found that blue color?  I was in Helsinki for the sake of my work and stayed at the Hotel Seurahuone. When I opened the bathroom door I got overwhelmed by this blue wall made of ceramic tiles. Of course tiles can be made in many colors and this wall was probably made of standard mosaic ceramic tiles but unexpectedly, it was just what I needed.

Kotiuduttuani aloin kaivella sinisiä jämäpaloja, eikä ollut ollenkaan vaikeaa löytää sopivia sinisiä tilkkuja.

When I got home I began digging through my piles of blue scraps. It wasn’t at all difficult to find the right blue ones.

Siitä tuli pieni tähti.

I made a small star.

Tässä taas kaikki tähdet tähän mennessä. Enää puuttuu kaksi pientä tähteä. Nämä viimeiset värit on kaikkein vaikeimpia keksiä. Vaikka luulisi maailmassa olevan enemmän värejä kuin 13, niin ei vaan tule mieleen yhtään enempää juuri nyt.

Here you can see all the stars so far. Only two small ones are lacking. These last colors are the most difficult ones to figure out. Surely there are more than 13 colors in the world but I just can’t think of any more of them right now.

Madame Geisha

Käsityötaiteen syventävät opinnot alkoivat. Piti tehdä jokin kolmiulotteinen juttu. Näin minä käsitin ja tein Madame Geishan. Melkein kaikki muut tekivät tuolin.

My studies of arts and crafts continued a few weeks ago. We were supposed to make something three dimensional. At least I understood it in that way and made Madame Geisha. The others made a chair.

Vaan eipä hätää, seuraavana päivänä piti tehdä oikeassa suhteessa oleva figuuri sille tuolille. No, sehän minulla jo olikin, tuoli vain puuttui. En ehtinyt tehdä siitä kuin hahmotelman paperille, jossa kuvittelin, ettei tämä madame mahdu mihinkään tavalliseen tuoliin vaan hän levähtää divaanille.

The next day we were told to make a human figure in the same scale of the chair. Well, I already had it and I just had to make the chair. Unfortunately I didn’t have time for that and I made only a sketch on a paper. I figured that an ordinary chair wouldn’t take this Madame. She would need a divan.

Kenties madame kärsii skolioosista tai kulkee muuten vain vähän horjuen.

Maybe she suffers from scoliosis or walks a bit lurching for obvious reasons.

Anteeksi, madame, mutta saammeko katsoa helmojenne alle?

Excuse us Madame, but may we take a look under your skirt?

Sieltä löytyy ensin kanaverkkoa, joka on muotoiltu madamen muotojen mukaiseksi. Sen päälle on liimattu yleisliimassa uitettua märkälujaa paperia useita kerroksia.  

You find here chicken wire shaped to show Madame’s figures. Over the wire is glued several layers of wet durable and firm paper.

Viimeiseksi madamelle on puettu alushame Geisha-karkkipapereista ja päällyshame Fazerin Sinisistä. Tai siis nehän on liimattu eikä puettu. Onneksi tämä ei ollut Muodin huipulle -ohjelma.

Then she’s put on the underskirt made of Geisha candy papers and the overskirt made of Fazer Blue candy papers. I mean they are glued on her. Fortunately this wasn’t the TV-series 'Project runway'.
