Lauantairetki - Saturday excursion

I spent last Saturday on an excursion with the Raita group (a group of arts and crafts students). First we went to the wax foundry Lahtinen in Hausjärvi. There were all sorts of stuff concerning bees like beeswax, honey and so on. I bought 50 g of pollen and while I don´t know its effects I´ll give it a try. You see,  it´s edible because it´s the same stuff bees normally have for supper. It tastes a bit sweet but somewhat musty.

Tämä ihanuus on mehiläisvahaa, siis ylijäämänauhaa vahalevyjen teosta. Se menee uudelleen sulatukseen.
This wonderful thing is a ball of beeswax stripes; it is the leftovers from making beeswax sheets and it will go back to be melted again.

Seuraavaksi Oittiin Eija Rasinmäen mattokutomoon. Kutomon liiketoiminta on myynnissä, tämä oli ehkä viimeisiä mahdollisuuksia tutustua paikkaan.
The next place we went to was the rug weaving mill owned by Eija Rasinmäki. The business of the mill is for sale, so this may have been my last chance to visit the place as it is now.
Taiteilija itse kutomakoneen ääressä.
The artist herself by the rug weaving machine.
Matonkuteita kaikissa sateenkaaren väreissä.
Rug rags in every color you can think of.
Matonkuteista voi tehdä mitä vain.
From rug rags you can weave anything you like.

Olipa hieno keksintö koristella kutomo ulkoapäin matoilla, n. 15 cm leveillä kaitaleilla. Varokaa naapurit, saatan kokeilla tätä kotona.
What a fine idea to decorate the outside of the mill with rug stripes about 15 cm wide. Watch out neighbors, I might try this at home.
The last place we visited was the glass village in Nuutajärvi.
Lasimuseossa käsintehtyjä lasi-ikkunoita.
Handmade glass windows in the glass museum.
Avaimia, jotka eivät käy mihinkään lukkoon. Nämä olivat kunniamerkkejä lasimestareille. Mitä suurempi avain, sen suurempi mestari.
Keys that don´t fit any locks. These were badges of honor for masters of glass. The bigger the key, the greater the master.
