Bargello-viritelmä – Bargello something

 

Tämä sekasotku oli siis jäänyt kesken tosi kauan sitten ja muuttunut KETuksi (=KeskenEräinen Työ). Tähän kuvaan olin jo poistanut nuppineulat ja järjestänyt leveimmät soirot leveyden mukaan. Kapeimmat oli vielä yhtenä kasana. Puolet kaitaleista oli ommeltu toisiinsa aikaisemmin.

This mess had changed to an UFO for a long time ago. Before I took this photo I had taken off the pins and organized the strips by their length. The narrowest ones were still in one mass. Half of the stripes I had sewn together earlier.

Heti kun silmäni vältti, tilkkutarkastaja kellahti kaitaleiden päälle, eikä suostunut väistymään.

As soon as I was looking away my quilt inspector tumbled over the stripes and didn´t want to go away.

Lopulta sain ommeltua valmiit kaitaleet yhteen ja sain näin kaksi pitkää tilkkupintaa. Mutta kummin päin ompelisin ne yhteen. Tämä oli vaihtoehto 1.

Finally, I managed to sew the stripes together and then I got two long and narrow quilt fabrics. But in which way should I sew them together. This was the option 1.

Ja tämä oli vaihtoehto 2. Valitsin tämän vaihtoehdon. Huomaa, että en ollut vielä ommellut osia yhteen ja keskeltä puuttuu ohut kaitale.

And this was the option 2. I chose this one. Notice that I hadn’t yet sewn the pieces together and a very narrow stripe was still missing in the center.

No, sitten kun olin liittänyt ohuen vaikeasti ommeltavan kaitaleen kiinni kumpaankin osaan, huomasin, että ei mennyt kuin Strömsössä. Toivottavasti et huomaa virhettäni, mutta annan vinkin seurata ohuiden kaitaleiden värien rytmiä. Hetken verran ajattelin purkaa, mutta sitten terve järki voitti. Eihän tämä mikään näyttelytyö ole.

After sewing the very narrow stripe to the both pieces (believe me, that was a hard job to do) I noticed I had made a big mistake. I hope you don’t find it, but I give you a hint. Follow the rhythm of color of the narrowest stripes. For a moment I thought I would unravel it, but then my common sense told me not to. After all, this is not going to any exhibition.

Aloin sitten tikata työtä ja aina kun käänsin selkäni, tilkkutyön tarkastaja asettui asemiin. Tämä on ilmiselvästi sen lempparityö. Minun lempparini tämä ei kyllä ole, jo sen koon vuoksi. Leveys on 58 cm ja korkeus 167 cm. Mitä ihmettä siitä voisin tehdä?! Harkitsin tyynyjä, mutta sitten isotöinen bargello-viritelmä ei näkyisi mihinkään ja työ olisi ollut jokseenkin turha.

Then I began to quilt the work and every time I turned my back my quilt inspector took her seat on the quilt. Obviously, this is her favorite quilt. But not mine, first of all its size is difficult, width 58 cm and height 167 cm. What on earth could I make of it? First thought was to make pillows, but then the laborious bargello work wouldn’t show anywhere and all the hard work would have been useless.

Tilkkutarkastaja oli taas perusteellinen työssään. Olihan työn sisällä nukuttava ennen kuin sen voisi arvostella.

My quilt inspector was very profound in her job as always. She had to sleep inside the quilt before she could judge the work.

Tilkkutarkastajan arvio: ”Tätä voi ehdottomasti käyttää kissan nukkumapeittona. Ai ei vai? Mitä parempaa tästä muka voisi tehdä?”

The quilt inspector’s comment: ”In my opinion this would be an excellent cat quilt. You don’t agree? Tell me, what better could you make out of this anyway?”

Onneksi parvekkeellani odotteli rottinkituolivanhus, jolle olin jo lukenut madonlukuja. Minun pitäisi joko korjata se tai heittää pois. Vaan nyt tämän viritelmän ansiosta tuoli sai lisäaikaa. Tai oikeastaan minä sain, koska minun ei tarvinne tehdä tuolille vielä mitään vähään aikaan. Molemmat voittivat. Tai oikeastaan kaikki, kissa todennäköisesti nukkuu tuolilla peiton päällä.

Luckily there was an old rattan chair on my balcony waiting for to be thrown away or repairing. But due to this bargello something the chair got extra time, or that is I got extra time because I don’t have to decide what to do with the old chair. It was a win-win. Actually, also my cat won. Probably she will be sleeping on the chair and it will become a cat quilt.

Tähän päättyy tällä kertaa KETujen kesytys, tämä olkoon toistaiseksi viimeinen. Tekee jo mieli tehdä jotain muuta.

This is the last UFO I deal with so far. I'm eager to do something else instead.

Sudoku # 2 – Sudoku quilt

 

Tämä KETtu (KeskenEräinen Työ) oli jokseenkin helppo kesyttää. Oli vanhalla EQ5-ohjelmalla tekemäni ohje ja puolet tilkkupinnasta tehtynä. Tämän suunnittelin kauan, kauan sitten, silloin kun sudokut olivat uutta hottia Suomessa.

It was rather easy to finish this UFO. I had the plan I made with an old EQ5 program and half of the surface was done. I made this plan a long, long time ago, when sudokus landed in Finland.  

Tällainen siitä tuli. Ymmärrän nyt, miksi se jäi KETuksi. Oli taas niitä kulmia kohdistettavina, eikä mun kärsivällisyys, aika tai mikä lienee riittänyt aikanaan siihen. Tiukkaa teki nytkin.

This is how it turned out to be. Now I understand perfectly why it became an UFO in the first place. There were lots of points to match and at that time I didn´t have enough patience, time or whatever. And it was laborious even now.

Kun olin tilkkupinnan saanut kokoon, piti miettiä tikkausta. En halunnut paljon paukkuja laittaa tähän, joten kuvassa olevista langoista vain osa pääsi jatkoon.

After finishing the surface, I had to make up my mind as for the quilting. Not all of these threads ended up to the quilt because I didn´t want to make too much effort to this quilt.

Aloitin keskeltä. Valitsin koneen ompeleista sopivan yksinkertaisen, jolla saisi kaksi tilkkua tikattua yhdellä kertaa.

I started quilting in the middle. I chose a kind of simple stitch to quilt two patches at the same time.

Vaihdoin langan väriä kankaan värin vaihtuessa.

I changed the color of the thread when the fabric changed.

Suunnittelin ensin tikkaavani myös ruutuihin jotain, mutta vähempikin riitti.

First, I planned to quilt something to the squares too, but then I decided that less is enough. 

Turkoosit kankaat on mun lemppareita, keltainen ja oranssi piristää niitä. Mulla taisi olla tuolloin aika värikäs kausi meneillään.

Fabrics of turquoise color are my favorites, while yellow and orange brighten them. I must have had a very colorful season currently happening at that time.

Mallin otin ihan oikeasta sudokusta, jokseenkin vaikeasta. Siinä on 14 yhdeksän ruudun osaa, joiden täytyy olla oikein, lisäksi koko 9x9 ruudukon pitää olla oikein. Se oli järjestyksessä toinen sudoku, jonka olin ratkaissut. En sen jälkeen ole sudokuja tehnytkään, ei ollut mun juttuni sekään.

The model to this quilt is from a genuine sudoku puzzle, somehow difficult one, I think. It has 14 nine patches that have to be correct and the whole 9x9 patches crisscross have to correct as well. It was the second sudoku I solved. And the final one too. Sudokus just didn’t interest me enough.

Keskustakangaspala on puuvillahameesta, jonka sain ystävältäni, joka oli saanut sen sukulaiseltaan, joka oli ostanut sen Thaimaasta.

The fabric in the middle square is from a cotton skirt I got from my good friend who got it from her relative who had bought it in Thailand.

Tilkkutarkastaja ei puuttunut tämän työn tekemiseen muuten kuin valvomalla työtä tiukalla katseella.

The quilt inspector didn´t get involved in making this quilt except monitoring it with a sharp look.
